GARAGES & ATTICS Although garages and attics are made to be storage spaces for years of accumulated stuff. they do not need to be in total disarray. BOB FARKAS, THE CLUTTER WIZARD will sort and organize all your memorobilia, sports equipment, holiday decorations, stored food, etc. so that you can find what you want when you want it and keep the chaos to a minimum.
THE CLUTTER WIZARD will... Empty everything out methodically --- one shelf at a time, one drawer at a time, one trunk at a time, one container at a time. Help you decide what to keep, recycle, donate or throw away. Categorize each item that's left. Make a container or a space for each category. Physically put things into their place. Suggest that you use clear plastic covered containers to store everything. Label all storage containers in detail so you won't always need to open them. Take advantage of all spaces --- behind things, on top of things, under things. Recommend that you don't store your adult kids' stuff. Give it to them to store. Break down all large cardboard boxes so they are flat. Store large cardboard boxes in an out-of-the-way space since they are used so infrequently. Pack computer, electronic equipment and gift boxes inside each other to save space. Limit the number of boxes that you keep.
AN ORGANIZING TIP
FOR GARAGES & ATTICS Keep photos, slides, audio cassettes, home movies and videos inside the house. Garages and attics are not usually climate controlled and any items that are stored in them are affected by weather conditions more severely than they would be inside the house.
