STORAGE Many people have a difficult time visualizing the potential use of their spaces. There's often a lot more storage space available than you may realize. BOB FARKAS, THE CLUTTER WIZARD, has a knack for finding these places. But the first rule of thumb is to discard as much as you can so that I can determine just how much storage space you really need for the things that are left over.
THE CLUTTER WIZARD will... Discard your extra stuff. It's the first step to organizing. Find the empty and unused spaces throughout your home, garage, office, etc. Rearrange what you already have to make better use of your space. Recommend adding or moving shelves, using storage containers, organizing caddies, etc. Make> things efficient, convenient and accessible by storing items where they belong. Use covered plastic storage containers inside cabinets, garages, and out-of-the-way places. Stack containers neatly. Categorize your stuff and keep things in each category together.
A FEW STORAGE TIPS FROM THE CLUTTER WIZARD When your storage space is overflowing it's time to start tossing stuff. Period. Buy aesthetically pleasing, good quality shelves, cabinets, dressers and desks if they will be displayed throughout your home or business. Closed cabinets are neater. They don't show your clutter. Buy the tallest, widest bookshelves, cabinets and dressers that will fit your space. Room to grow is the key here. Have a stepladder handy to reach the tallest shelves and spaces. Have only one junk drawer and every once in a while go through it. Trash what you don't want and put what's left where it belongs. Then you can start throwing more junk into it.
